How much does it cost to install an aircon in London?
A single wall-mounted split system installed in a London home costs £1,600 to £2,600 excluding VAT, supplied and fitted in a day. Two rooms from one outdoor unit run £3,200 to £4,800, three rooms £4,800 to £7,500, and fully concealed ducted systems start around £7,000. Flats sit £200 to £400 above houses because condenser access is harder.
The unit itself is the smaller half of the bill. A quality R32 split from a mainstream manufacturer costs £600 to £1,200 at trade; the rest is skilled labour: mounting, pipework, electrical connection, vacuum testing and commissioning by an F-Gas certified engineer. That split surprises people who have priced units online and expected fitting to be a small extra.
The spread within each range comes from the installation, not the equipment. A bedroom with the condenser directly below on a rear wall needs three metres of pipe and a short day. A top-floor room where the condenser must be bracketed at height, or a flat where it goes on a roof, needs access equipment, longer runs and sometimes a condensate pump. We price these differences at survey and put them in writing.
London prices run above the national figures you see on comparison sites for the same reason plumbers cost more here: access, parking, congestion charging and wage costs are all real. Checkatrade's published London range of roughly £1,470 to £2,830 for an installed split matches what we see quoted across the market.
Treat any figure well under £1,300 with suspicion. At that price something has given: an uncertified installer, an unbranded unit with no UK parts support, or a quote that grows on the day. The cheap install usually gets paid for twice.
