How messy is air conditioning installation?
Far less than most trades: no wet work, no plaster off walls, no floors up in a standard install. The mess is drilling, one core-drilled hole of 50 to 65mm per pipe route, which we do with dust extraction and sheeting. Expect a tidied room and a hoovered floor the same evening, not a building site.
A split installation is closer to fitting a boiler than building a bathroom. The invasive moments are mounting the indoor unit's backplate and core-drilling the pipe hole through the external wall, minutes of noise and managed dust rather than days. Pipework then runs outside the building in trunking or inside through voids where the route allows.
Our site habits: dust sheets down before tools come out, extraction on the core drill, furniture moved and returned, external holes sealed properly against weather and made good, and the packaging and offcuts leave with us. The room should look like itself with a new unit on the wall, not like a project.
The exceptions are the routes we warn about at survey: internal pipe runs through ceiling voids mean access panels or small openings that need making good; ducted systems are genuinely builder's work and are planned as such with your refurbishment; and listed-building fixings follow whatever method the consent specifies.
One day, one team, and the vacuum cleaner runs before the handover demonstration. If an installer's reputation includes mess, it usually includes hidden shortcuts too; tidiness and testing discipline tend to travel together.
